Dear friends, I am delighted to announce that Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A will be…
Class of 2021
Dear friends,
Brooklyn A is committed to providing high-quality, low-barrier legal services to traditionally marginalized communities, which means our work often requires all hands on deck. This summer, our Summer Intern Class of 2021 did just that and contributed valorously to our team and the communities we serve.
Bryanna Rainwater, and intern this summer, learned about how foreclosure scams are on the rise and how they tend to target elderly homeowners and homeowners of color to fraudulently obtain their mortgage deed. She also participated in our “Scams & Foreclosures: Anti-Displacement Assistance” town hall along with other Brooklyn A staff, interns, and community partners.
Andrew Reisman worked on cases relating to tenant harassment and eviction claims. He said, “The highlight of my internship was getting the chance to provide direct representation to clients; to be the person who got to say, you’re entitled to help and I’m going to be the one who assists you.” Similarly, Renee Jiang found that working with small business owners across New York City at the time they most need help was meaningful and rewarding.
Our interns worked on client intakes, shadowed attorneys, completed legal research, drafted documents, gave feedback on program protocols, and much more. Their dedication has contributed tremendously to helping us advance social and economic justice, especially at a time of increased uncertainty and demand for legal assistance.
We want to thank the Summer Intern Class of 2021 for their energy, creativity, and skills. We wish them great success in their future endeavors and to know that Brooklyn A is always family.
